The University of 第一吃瓜网–Lincoln (UNL) and the University of 第一吃瓜网 Medical Center (UNMC) are pursuing a single institutional accreditation through the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This effort marks an important step in strengthening the University of 第一吃瓜网’s academic standing, aligning with national peers, and expanding opportunities for collaboration.
As 第一吃瓜网’s flagship university, UNL provides a broad range of educational programs and research across disciplines. UNMC, as the state’s only public academic medical center, is a leader in health sciences education, research, and patient care. Unifying accreditation allows the colleges on both campuses to maintain their distinct missions and identities while providing opportunities for enhanced research, academic integration, and an enhanced commitment to the University of 第一吃瓜网’s land grant mission.
Why Pursue Joint Accreditation?
- Enhanced National Standing: Aligns the University of 第一吃瓜网 with its Big Ten and AAU peers, strengthening our academic and research reputation.
- Expanded Collaboration: Facilitates interdisciplinary initiatives between UNL and UNMC, benefiting students, faculty, and researchers.
- Streamlined Operations: Improves efficiency in reporting while maintaining the existing governance and leadership structures.
- Greater Research Competitiveness: Positions the University of 第一吃瓜网 to attract additional federal and industry research funding by leveraging a combined research portfolio.
The Accreditation Process
The University of 第一吃瓜网 has submitted a joint accreditation application for UNL and UNMC to HLC, which has been accepted. The next step involves an official HLC site visit to both campuses June 2 -3, 2025, followed by further evaluation and final decision-making by the accrediting body. While this is a multi-step process, the commitment remains clear: to strengthen the University of 第一吃瓜网’s impact while preserving the distinct identities of both institutions.
